Lester's Blues

Swing Jazz Septet

Lester’s Blues, the septet formed by saxophonist Tom Callens, celebrates musicians from the 1930s such as Count Basie, Lester Young and others, by playing their music with a natural, energetic swing.

Lester’s Blues takes its name from one of the most bittersweet songs by saxophonist Lester Young, arguably one of the greatest stylists in jazz history. Drawing inspiration from 1930 recordings by Count Basie’s small band, Lester’s Blues aims to take a fresh, vigorous approach to the music, style, atmosphere, and natural swing that forever defined jazz. The septet is modelled on some of Count Basie’s bands: a four-instrument rhythm section with piano and guitar, and a three-instrument brass section made up of top Belgian and Dutch jazz and swing artists, seasoned musicians who have built their reputations on years of gigging and playing. We promise you a wonderful evening of dancing!
